Clint Funk
is the principal of Funk & Associates. He started
his graphic arts career as a newspaper production manager and commercial
photographer prior to the desktop revolution. Some of his wide ranging
experiences include: managing a service bureau, managing Calumet
Photographic—one of the first digital imaging studios—
scanning, proofing, and digital photography for the commercial photographer,
managing Dynamic Graphics Training, managing a seven-month consulting
project to re-engineer Bradlees 40-person advertising department,
managing a team of RR Donnelley employees to process map and evaluate
their entire system of prepress divisions, and managing the transition
from computer-to-plate for three different RR Donnelley prepress
divisions.
Clint is a NAPL (National Association of Print Leadership)
consultant and writes a regular technology column in their Digital
Prepress newsletter. He has co-authored two books
for NAPL, Managing a Productive Digital Environment
and Managing and Selling Digital Prepress.
He is an Acrobat and Photoshop ACE (Adobe Certified
Expert), and authorized Quark Trainer. Clint’s expertise,
shared with an engaging and humorous style, makes learning very
entertaining and highly effective. Whether presenting a seminar,
teaching a course, or working with senior management to re-engineer
workflow and implement more effective marketing strategies, Clint

James Maivald (Associate)
has over 20 years experience in the graphics design
industry. He was an editor of an architectural and engineering design
trade magazine just as the personal computer made its debut. With
a background in traditional keyline and paste-up, Jim quickly embraced
the nascent desktop publishing technology. By 1989, he assumed the
duties of Technical Editor for Personal Publishing
magazine and introduced a new generation to quickly developing production
innovations.
With his technology and editorial background, Jim joined
the board of the Association for the Development of Electronic
Publishing Technique (ADEPT), based in Chicago and dedicated
to developing and furthering the skills and principles of professional
electronic design and publishing. He served as president of ADEPT
from 1993-1994.
He started his own design firm, Desktop Design, in
1991. Desktop Design specializes in corporate identity and marketing.
He provides services to all clients regardless of platform, but
is one of the few professional designers who specialized in PC-based
publishing and consulting. In 2000, he added Web design and database
publishing to his extensive skills matrix.
Today, Jim provides regular training and consulting
in all aspect of electronic design and publishing. He produces seminars
and hands-on training for trade shows and clients around the country
and has authored numerous articles on design and electronic publishing.
He produces classroom-based curriculum for a variety of desktop
publishing applications and has been an approved Corel trainer,
since 1995.
